Dr. Potter has performed in London, Paris, Mexico City, Toronto, New Orleans, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Washington D.C., Phoenix, Dallas, Boston, and Atlanta. She is an internationally recognized alto and bass flute virtuoso and has performed at many conventions of the National Flute Association as well as the British Flute Society convention in 2008. Her CD Flute Menagerie features solo works for alto and bass. She has commissioned and premiered many works for alto and bass, including Stone Suite by Sonny Burnette, Baikal Journey by Catherine McMichael, Obstinato and Scareso by Mike Mower and Two for Two by Katherine Hoover. Her next commission is a work for alto flute and piano by Paul Schoenfeld. She has just been appointed Chair of the newly formed Low Flutes Committee by the Board of the National Flute Association.
Chris was seen on the cover of Flute Talk magazine in February 2008 with the 10-foot high sculpture of a bass flute that is in her front yard. She is a frequent contributor to Flute Talk as well as The Quarterly, the magazine of the National Flute Association.
She has written and arranged many books. Halloween Duets (now part of Fun Flute Duets) and The Alto and Bass Flute Resource Book were both winners in the National Flute Association's Newly Published Music Competition. Her most recent book is The Vibrato Workbook published by Falls House Press. Her next publication is a collection of beginning and intermediate solos for alto and bass flute to be published by Falls House Press in spring 2011.
Dr. Potter holds an annual Alto and Bass Flute Retreat every summer. In 2011 it will be held at the end of July on the campus of the University of Colorado in Boulder. The retreat includes participatory workshops on such topics as breath control, tone development, vibrato and discovering new repertoire.
As Chair of the newly formed Low Flutes Committee of the National FLute Association, she and her committee commissioned a work from Alexandra Molnar-Suhajda for low flutes ensemble which premiered with at the Anaheim convention with 40 low flutes, including eight contra-basses and two double contras.
Chris has a Doctorate in Flute Performance from SUNY Stonybrook where she studied with Sam Baron. Her Bachelor's and Master's degrees were with Fulbright scholar Frank Bowen. She also attended masterclasses of Marcel Moyse and William Bennett.
