Dr. Chris Potter, flute teacher in Boulder, Colorado, teaches lessons tailored to each student's needs. Music theory, vibrato, powerful breathing and tone production are specialities. She is shown here with the 10-foot high bass flute sculpture in her front yard. The vast majority of her students are c flute players, the flute played in bands and wind ensembles. She teaches flute students of all ages, including adults who are dusting off their flutes after years of not playing.

Dr. Potter has a vast personal library of music and loves to teach all styles of music including Irish, folk songs, Disney, musicals, music from film scores as well as the classical style.

Lessons are 30, 45 and 60 minutes long every week.

Lessons are given in a sunny, quiet atmosphere, with the cat, Mr. Twinkle, sometimes putting in an appearance. There is a park nearby if younger siblings need something to do, and the kitchen table is available for homework.

Several of Chris's students, adults and school-age, have performed at National Flute Association conventions in flute choirs and as soloists. In Boulder, there are three studio recitals a year: the Halloween recital is certainly the most popular. Other popular themes have been Valentine's Day, Irish, Japanese, Patriotic, and recitals about animals and gardens. Performances end with the entire group playing a piece together, sometimes with an audience sing-a-long.

Chris was a member of the Teacher's Committee of the National Flute Association for seven years and has presented many recitals, seminars, workshops and classes for the National Flute Association and for flute clubs around the country. People come from all over the US to study with her at her annual Alto and Bass Flute Retreat. She has written and arranged numerous books for flute that are published by Falls House Press in New Hampshire and Kevin Mayhew Publishers in England. She has been a winner of the National Flute Association's Newly Published Music two times. Her most recent book is Vibrato Workbook for Flute Players of All Ages.Chris is now the chair of the NFA Low Flutes Committee.
